CONG AND ASHMORE CASTLE
3:02
On Monday I went to a little town called Cong. It is a very charming village located in County Mayo and it is known for its underground streams that connect Lough Corrib with Lough Mask to the north. It was also the home for the father of the incredible well known writer Oscar Wilde.
Moreover it is the home of the Ashford castle which originally was a Victorian faux lakeside castle built by the Guinness family, but now it is just a luxury hotel. Its surroundings are incredible too. There is a forest where you can do some routes and walk for an hour or so. I did one of the routes and I was completely on my own. There weren't any other tourists and It felt great as I could enjoy the beauty of the forest and the nature with no one around. Furthermore, this castle and its surroundings were used to film the movie 'The Quiet Man'.
I had a great time there and I totally recommend it. Since I've been here in Ireland this is what I have enjoyed the most! Unfortunately I forgot my camera at home and I had to take the pictures with my phone but I will probably be going back very soon.
After being around the castle and the gardens I went back to Cong and I had a great Chai Latte and a brownie in the 'Puddleducks Cafe'.
I truly think that this is a great place to go just for a walk and it is a very healthy and inexpensive way to spend a day out if you are here in Ireland.
I hope you liked it and I will see you very soon.
